AN INTRODUCTION TO OAK FLOORING.

Oak has been used for flooring for hundreds of years and is extremely long lasting and hard wearing.  Its obvious intrinsic beauty and striking patina are, if anything, enhanced by age.  The slower growing English oak in which we specialise tends to have a more varied grain than the American variety.  The grain is more muscular and vigorous and the tone and colour richer. It takes an exceptionally fine finish and can be stained and polished easily.

We offer high quality traditional English oak flooring boards with a good thickness and width.  These are planed and ready to lay. Broadly speaking there is a choice between tongue and grooved oak boards or square edged oak boards depending on the preferred means of fixing. We cut to order which gives as maximum flexibility to respond to the  requirements of a specific job and can provide either random or regular  widths.

We offer detailed advice about the special characteristics of oak, the  conditions needed in the site prior to fitting oak

flooring and the different methods of fixing. In addition there are numerous possible finishes and our workshop will prepare samples showing specific finishes in order to aid the client in his choice. If necessary we will make a site visit and we work closely with several fitters and finishers.
